Magnificent Rome in the Summer!
Somehow I had not managed to visit Rome so far even though it was at or near the top of my “list” for many years. I spent a few days recently in the Summer of 2011 with my family and we were all taken aback by the magnificence of the city. To those of you who have visited Rome this will come as no surprise to you, however despite everything that we had heard and seen of Rome previously we were still unprepared for the sheer richness of culture, architecture and history that we experienced. Rome is indeed a living museum that we were lucky enough to be a part of the fabric of for a few days. It is absolutely beautiful.
The Vatican, Colosseum, Roman Forum, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps and countless piazzas, statues and churches defy superlatives and have to be seen to be truly appreciated. Add in the superb weather, food and pavement cafes and restaurants and this was truly an amazing short trip

only a two and a half hour flight away from London. I can confrim we are NOT being paid by the Rome tourist board!
We managed to get a day trip from Rome to the island of Capri and the Amalfi coast which were breathtakingly beautiful. We have fallen in love with Italy and look forward to returning soon to visit Venice, Florence, Pisa, Pompeii and Milan amongst other sites. I suggest for those that have not been to Rome rub out number 1 on the proverbial list and replace it with “Rome” and go quickly. Previous visitors are invited to return at their earliest!
We found the Romans are quite relaxed despite the reputation for Latin hot headedness but I can confirm that road crossings are for target practice for the cars and red trafiic lights are just another colour in the visible spectrum! But Rome was huge fun – everything is within walking distance.
I hope that you enjoy a sample of the photos of our visit.
