Orthodontic braces work on moving your teeth into a straighter position. Here are some tips to follow so you can still enjoy your meal times even when you still have your braces on.
Choose softer food items
This is important especially during the first few days after your braces are attached or tightened. You can choose soups and vegetables that have been cooked for a longer period of time until soft.
Cut food items into small pieces
Cut food such as fruits or bread into the smallest bits possible so you can still enjoy them even if you have braces.
Stay away from chewing gum
Imagine getting gum stuck to your brackets and wires – not a very comfortable experience!
Avoid sweet and starchy food items
Starch and sugar on the surface of your teeth and braces will strongly attract bacteria, which in turn can cause plaque.
Change your meat choices
You can opt for cold cuts, which are better choices for your braces compared to, say, steak or ribs.
